Angels and Demons is the new film featuring Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, a followup to The Da Vinci Code, based on the novel by Dan Brown.
The book was written before Da Vinci Code, so is a prequel, but has been filmed as a sequel.
Whereas Da Vinci Code has one foot in the past, and is very historical, Angels and Demons is set in the present and looks to the future. It has a story involving the Illuminati, sworn enemy of the Catholic Church, and an assassination plot against the Pope. It has a plot involving anti matter, very much in line with the CERN Hadron collider experiments we saw early 2008.
And Tom Hanks doesn't have a mullet for this one.
Rumour has it that the third Langdon novel is underway. Much like Thomas Harris writing the third Hannibal Lector book, Dan Brown will be aware that this book will be going straight to screenplay, probably with Ron Howard directing again. So it will be bound to have an affect on how he writes it. The story is supposed to be set in the USA this time.
Dan Brown has two other novels, neither of which feature Langdon, but have similar plots and characters. Digital Fortress takes place inside the NSA's computer system. Deception Point is about a possible alien life fossil discovered in the Antarctic. Both make a good read and hopefully will be filmed one day.
Let's see if Angels and Demons turns out to be as good as Da Vinci Code.
