1980 Arnold won - simple as that
He was preparing for Conan and the shape he got into, for the film, what we saw in the film, was what he brought to the stage that night
While some say it was not up to the same standard as he earlier 6 winning years, he was still ahead of everyone else
During his acceptance speech, Arnold acknowledged how close the decision was, saying
"I have to be very honest, that this was the highest level of competition that I have ever faced in any competition in my life"
Zane had completely recovered from his injury, and had retained his definition, much of his muscular size from the year before was missing, so Zane was never going to win the title again
Zane didn't compete in 81
Came second to Dickerson in 82
83 he came fourth with Samir winning, and retired
81 Franco won his second title with a comeback, and Dickerson came second place, going on to win in 82 - Dickerson paid his dues and worked his way up
In 81, Frank Zane, Boyer Coe, Mentzer, and 6th place Roger Walker all boycotted and did not enter - though nobody cared about Walker

According to Chris Dickerson, "the promoter was a real low life, a bigot, who had a real dislike for me –partly on racial grounds and partly for my sexual orientation." Paul Graham even told another official that "Chris couldn't win because he was a fag"
Yes because it had to be "racist" of course - and the gay thing
Dickerson winning in 82 proves that was nonsense
81 lineup
Franco
2nd Dickerson
3rd Tom Platz
4th Callender
5th Padilla
6th Wilcox
Samir placed 9th
If Mentzer, Coe and Zane had all entered in 81, where would they place after Franco and Dickerson - 4th, 5th and 6th maybe - Tom Platz was a factor as he probably would have still placed 3rd above all 3 of them
In 82, Platz dropped to 6th, and Zane came back but only at 4th - Albert Beckles and Casey Viator were inserted between them at 5th and 3rd
