September

Another summerAnother vacation is overA September morning,With the sun and the smell of the clover
Down by the gateWe sit and we watch all our friends go byAnd pretend we don't hear the bell,That rings through the summer sky.

----------------------------------

Summer has come and passedThe innocent can never lastWake me up when September ends
Like my fathers come to passSeven years has gone so fastWake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain againFalling from the starsDrenched in my pain againBecoming who we are
As my memory restsBut never forgets what I lostWake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells againLike we did when spring beganWake me up when September ends

----------------------------------------

Do you rememberThe 21st night of September?Love was changin' the minds of pretendersWhile chasin' the clouds away
Our hearts were ringin'In the key that our souls were singin'As we danced in the night, rememberHow the stars stole the night away, oh, yeah

Holdin' hands with your heart to see youOnly blue talk and love, rememberHow we knew love was here to stay
Now DecemberFound the love that we shared in SeptemberOnly blue talk and love, rememberThe true love we share today
Hey, hey, heyBa-dee-ya, say, do you remember?Ba-dee-ya, dancin' in SeptemberBa-dee-ya, never was a cloudy dayThere was aBa-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), say, do you remember?Ba-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), dancin' in SeptemberBa-dee-ya (dee-ya, dee-ya), golden dreams were shiny days
The bell was ringin', oh, ohOur souls were singin'Do you remember never a cloudy day? Yow

-------------------------------------------

September girlsDo so muchAnd for so long'Till we touchedI love you, boyNever mindI've been cryingAll the time
December boys got it badDecember boys got it bad
September girlsI don't know whyHow can I denyWhat's insideEven though IKeep awayThey will loveAll our days

By all these lovely tokens,

September days are here.

With summer's best of weather and autumn's best of cheer

----------------------------------

September tries its best to have us forget summer

There is a clarity about September ... the sun seems brighter, the sky more blue, the white clouds take on marvelous shapes; the moon is a wonderful apparition, rising gold, cooling to silver; and the stars are so big

September is the other January.

September has come, it is hers whose vitality leaps in the autumn, whose nature prefers trees without leaves and a fire in the fireplace

Ah, September! You are the doorway to the season that awakens my soul ... but I must confess that I love you only because you are a prelude to my beloved October

September days have the warmth of summer in their briefer hours, but in their lengthening evenings a prophetic breath of autumn

We know that in September, we will wander through warm winds of summer's wreckage

It was a lovely afternoon—such an afternoon as only September can produce when summer has stolen back for one more day of dream and glamour

I bear the Scales, where hang in equipoise
The night and day; and whenunto my lips
I put my trumpet, with its stress and noise
Fly the white clouds like tattered sails of ships;
The tree-tops lash the air with sounding whips;
Southward the clamorous sea-fowl wing their flight;
The hedges are all red with haws and hips,
The Hunter's Moon reigns empress of the night.

There is a time in late September when the leaves are still green and the days are still warm,

but somehow you know that it is all about to end,

 as if summer was holding its breath,

 and when it let it out again, it would be autumn

All the months are crude experiments, out of which the perfect September is made
