Bible translation

Those who argue about the signficance of Bible passages and worry about what might get lost in he translations and reprints might want to try Matthew 6 v 16-18.

It concerns fasting:

"When you fast, do not look sombre as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Sage advice. Now, transplant the "s" to and "r" and you get "farting" rather than "fasting". Only one letter back in the alphabet, so not a huge mistranslation.

Now read the passage again.

"When you fart, do not look sombre as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are farting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fart, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are farting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Makes just as much sense, but a whole lot funnier. And as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago.
